Cultural
institutions of stewardship
Our work for cultural institutions has encompassed designing a broad spectrum of spaces necessary for good stewardship of important historic artifacts and collections, including archival storage facilities, conservation laboratories, study and research spaces, and places for display. Examples include: the new Conservation Lab and Reading Room renovations for the American Philosophical Society, and high density book and manuscript archives and meeting suites for the Chemical Heritage Foundation. Prior to starting AxD, principal Ed Barnhart served as the Associate-in-charge for the 1990’s complete renovations to The Barnes Foundation gallery, administration and service buildings while at Venturi Scott Brown and Associates.
